Don't smear the germs...remove 'em!

Over the years, so many have become accustomed to using alcohol gels and foams on their hands for a "quick fix" that do not even realize how little they are actually doing for themselves. The alcohol gels and foams are meant to be used on hands that have already been properly washed and dried. An example of this is the signs on dispensers found on some of the cruise ships out there. They are finally acknowledging the truth about the use of their own product. Ironically, on cruise ships, the #1 concern as told to you during the safety session is fire. (Then why do they have alcohol laden stands all over the ship, which will burn hot and long and can explode as well in a fire?) Originally designed for healthcare workers who wash routinely throughout the day, they were somewhat effective. However, the average person is not properly washing throughout the day making alcohol gels and foams fairly ineffective. In essence, they are merely smearing the dirt and germs and not removing anything from the hands, often leaving several germs on the hands. The frictional activity of a towelette, combined with antimicrobial detergents that are safe to use, allows you to properly clean and sanitize the hands, and remove the dirt and germs from the hands. The next time you see someone at the dinner table opening their little alcohol gel container and smear it all over their hands, ask yourself..."what did they really do to clean their hands?"
